5 Wedding Planning Tips | Nashville Wedding Photographer

As a wedding photographer serving the Nashville, TN area (and beyond) for over 6 years, I have a lot of know-how when it comes to the planning process. Wedding planning isn't just simply time-consuming; it can also be intimidating at times. You might be stressed, overwhelmed, and spread a little (or a lot) too thin as your big day approaches. Emotions are running high and it’s easy to forget about all the little details that can make a significant difference as to how you handle any conflicts or setbacks, but most importantly, the experience.

Don't forget about the most important person in your wedding—you!

Self-care is a very vital aspect of wedding planning, as well as life, that many people overlook. No matter how overwhelmed you are with wedding planning, your physical and mental health should not be taken for granted.

Sure, there may be snags along the way or even on the big day, but the most important thing is that you're getting married and all of your friends and family will be there to celebrate with you!

Allow me to give you the lowdown on 5 wedding planning tips to help make the process less stressful for you!

The Timeline

Create a detailed, hour-by-hour wedding day timeline to guarantee your wedding day runs smoothly. This will help you stay organized, stress-free, and on time. Share your wedding day timetable with your wedding party, wedding coordinator/planner, photographer, caterer, florist, and other vendors once you've completed it so that everyone is on the same page.

While most weddings follow the same format, the order in which these events occur may differ based on your preferences. It’s not a one size fits all. Talk to your wedding photographer and they will help you sort it out!

It’s All In The Details

Nashville Wedding Photo Details

You have most likely spent time carefully picking various details of your wedding. Ideally, you’ll want to gather all of your wedding details and have it available for your photographer to shoot when they arrive. They will likely begin taking detail photographs while your hair and makeup are being done. I suggest gathering these items in a box ahead of time. Personally, I share a list prior to your wedding day that will go over what you’ll need to have ready for these photos.

First Look

Choosing to do a first look gives you a safe space to be emotional and enjoy the moment. After seeing each other for the first time, you can hug, kiss, twirl, and get a good look at each other without feeling rushed. First look photos give you a moment in your crazy day to tell each other how much you love each other in private.

I'm a sucker for first looks, so it goes without saying that I love them, but this isn't about me. So, if you prefer to stick to the traditional way, that's fine! Personally, I never want my couples to feel like I'm pressuring them to have a first look, but you should be informed!

Prepare A Family Formal Shot List

The goal is for you to have the most enjoyable and efficient family photos possible! While they may appear daunting, your wedding photographer is there to make them go smoothly. Before your wedding, your photographer should request a shot list so that they can get all of the family photo combinations you want. This way, they can have their assistant or a friend/family member of yours call out who is up next and they won't forget any shots that you listed.

Hire Vendors You Trust

Whether it be your florist, caterer, DJ, wedding coordinator or photographer, finding vendors who are experienced and will help to make your day memorable and stress-free is so important. Take your time and listen to your gut when hiring your wedding vendor team. Whether you’re getting married in Nashville, the town over, or in another state, if you need help finding wedding vendors, I’m happy to share my preferred vendor list once your date is secured, which will guarantee your wedding will be beautiful and stress-free!
